Mississippi is part of the Deep South, and offers a very wide range of attractions, from the Mississippi River to swamplands, forests and even beautiful beaches on the Gulf of Mexico. National Parks One of the defining things about the state of Mississippi is its number of unspoiled natural areas. The Coast While it constitutes the smallest geographical area within the state, the Gulf Coast is one of the most popular destinations here. For instance, if you’re in town when it happens, the USA International Ballet Competition in Jackson is an interesting event to attend (held only every four years). You can also enjoy the Magnolia Independent Film Festival, which has garnered national and international praise (held in Starkville). One of the best options to explore is the Mississippi Blues Trail, which takes you through some of the most iconic and influential locations in the history of blues. You’ll also find sites like the Delta Blues Museum, as well as the Riverside Hotel. Education in Mississippi In addition to offering a range of cultural and recreational opportunities, the state has quite a variety of educational options. You’ll find that the Mississippi State University system is one of the largest in the state, but by no means the only choice.
